Now that we know how to achieve a white, vibrant smile, let’s talk about ways to keep those pearly whites bright. So, give me a B!…give me an R!…
Brush your teeth and then floss while you still have toothpaste in your mouth. This helps get the toothpaste into those hard to reach places and reduce the risk of staining in between your teeth.
Rinse after eating or drinking. Just a quick swish with water can make a huge difference in keeping your smile whiter and also decreases the risk of developing cavities.
If it can stain your clothes, it can stain your teeth. You know the offenders: red wine, blueberries, brightly colored popsicles…anything you would immediately rinse off your clothes before a stain sets in, also pertains to cleaning off your teeth.
Get a straw when drinking dark sodas or iced tea. Using a straw will help keep the offending stains off your front teeth.
Hot beverages are more likely to stain. Microscopic cracks in our teeth expand and contract with extreme temperatures making them more susceptible to staining. Refrain from drinking coffee or tea while it’s still piping hot. Also, consider adding milk to lighten the color.
Tobacco is a big no. It’s the biggest offender of them all. Snuff, cigars, cigarettes and pipes, all coat teeth with a thick yellow-brown stain that requires professional cleaning from our hygienists to remove.
